Haul Truck at a Mine

(Don't call it a dump truck.)

Haul Trucks work in and around mines.  We live close to the Kennicott Copper Mine in Salt Lake County, Utah.  There are different size haul trucks, but they all are enormous.  At Kennicott Copper Mine (operated and owned by Rio Tinto) there are some haul trucks that can carry 320 tons of rock.  These haul trucks are 24 feet (7.32 meters) wide. . .  and 29 feet (8.84 meters) tall.  They are 51 feet (15.54 meters) long.  When loaded with ore from the mine a haul truck weighs over a million pounds!  By the way, the tires alone are 12.5 feet tall! 

I drew this for my grandson who loves any kind of construction or mining equipment... especially excavators and dump trucks and bulldozers.  My wife, (who used to be a geologist who worked in a mine), told us that these huge mining trucks are NOT called dump trucks.  She insisted we call them Haul Trucks.
