Mermaids are amazing beings.  They tend to be very beautiful (both Mermen or the males and Mermaids or the females) and yet they are rarely seen by us mortals.

Sometimes River Fairies get confused with mermaids.  The reason is that first of all... Mermaids and Mermen can breathe air when they want to, but they also can easily breathe in water.  They don't have gills, they have a special type of lung that allows them to inhale water and extract the oxygen from the water.  So merpeople still need oxygen.  River Fairies use a charm when they want to go swimming underwater.  The charm is called the Pisces Animum.

The Pisces Animum charm is used by all Fairies.  But the River Fairies use it more often.  The charm gives them the type of lungs that mermaids have.  If the Fairy wishes, he or she can also get webbed feet and or webbed hands.  Did you notice that the Mermaid in the drawing has webbed hands?

Mermaids and Mermen are often friends with animals of the sea, and usually they have a favorite friend.  This Mermaid, in today's new drawing, is named Aquarius.  She has a friend named Foca.  Foca is a seal.

Mermaids prefer to wear natural attire.  So you can see that Aquarius is wearing kelp leaves.  She is resting on a rock at a small coral reef.  Foca and Aquarius have both just swum in and gone to the surface.  They are just offshore of a beach.

All these drawings are available, in printable form, by clicking on the category button labeled:  "Fantasy, Myths, and Circus."  Scroll down to the bottom of the list to get to this new drawing.

Below are some other Mermaid and River Fairy drawings from previous posts.  In my defense, the newer drawings are truly better,  because I'm taking drawing lessons.  But some of these drawings are done quickly and are for younger kids to color.  Today's new drawing is much more detailed than the simple ones.
