Beach Fairies

Female Beach Fairy

Beach Fairies are often mistaken for Mermaids.  But Beach Fairies live on land near the beach.  They have wings that they can use for both flying and swimming.  This Female Beach Fairy was doing what Beach Fairies do... combing the beach as she patroled the beach.  Beach Fairies have rescued human swimmers who were in trouble.  Then they perform the "Ovidalo" charm and make the mortal forget who rescued them.

Beach Fairies have something in common with Mermaids. . . Beach Fairies, like Mermaids, can breathe underwater.  Both Beach Fairies and Mermaids have specialized lungs that can gather oxygen from water or air.   When you are rescued by a Mermaid or Beach Fairy you will quite possibly not see them above the water.  They can stay underwater as they drag you into the shore.

Beach Fairies will sometimes wear mortal swimsuits to hide their identity.  After all, you would wonder of you saw someone wearing a kelp outfit like the Female Beach Fairy in this top drawing.  Remember that Fairies can take their wings inside their backs and appear to be mortals.   You have probably seen more than one Beach Fairy in your life.  You probably just thought she was a friendly and beautiful friendly mortal.  Or you thoght you had met a handsome and nice man.

Male Beach Fairies are much like the females in their behavior.  They male Beach Fairies are unique in their friendships with marine mammals.  They are often seen swimming with dolphins and whales.  Female Beach Fairies will do this too, just not as much.  Male Beach Fairies differ from Female Beach Fairies in their wings.  Females have three sets of wings while the males have only two sets.

As you can imagine, both Female and Male Beach Fairies always appear very fit.  They are one of the more physically active Fairies.  Beach Fairies have mostly rejected the advanced Fairy Tech in favor of a more simple life.  You will notice that neither Beach Fairy is wearing a flying belt.    Beach Fairies actually use less technology than the rest of Fairykind.  In other words, they swim and fly unassisted by advanced Fairy technology much of the time.  THAT is why they are so physically fit.

Fairy law prohibits any Fairy, especially a Beach Fairy, form compteting against mortals in any physical contests.  Beach Fairies are incredibly strong and fast and a mortal athlete would not stand a chance.    One more thing. . . Beach Fairies love to surf.  They also love to go Boogie Boarding AKA Body Boarding.  You will find Beach Fairies at many surfing and body boarding beaches.  They also hang out at pretty much any beach where mortals go swimming.  Many a toddler has been rescued by a Beach Fairy and the toddler's parents didn't even know that their child was in danger.

The Male Beach Fairy below is wearing a mortal Hawaiian style swimsuit.  In fact, this is a Hawaiian Beach Fairy.  As I have said before, Fairies are found everywhere.  The local Fairies in all parts of the world are basically the same race as the local mortals.  However, Fairies are a different subspecies of Humans.

One final reminder:  Fairies can use their magic to change from about 5 inches or 13 cm Fairy size to mortal size.  They go to mortal size whenever they are hanging out at a beach.  They also internalize their wings if unenlightened mortals are around.  Enlightened mortals know about Fairies and don't get freaked out by the wings.  The other reason Beach Fairies go to mortal size to go to a beach is that both ocean breezes and riptide currents can be a real problem if you are only 5 inches or 13 cm tall.

NOTE:  This Male Beach Fairy is going body boarding.  Notice his two sets, not three sets of wings.
