Joseph Smith

Joseph Smith near ther Nauvoo Temple
(new drawing so at the top of the list under the Religious button)

Joseph Smith was the prophet of the Restoration.  He founded the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  He was able to accompligh so much in a young life.  He was martyred in his mid thirties.  He never saw this (Nauvoo) Temple completed.  As a young man he translated the Book of Mormong from anciet gold plates.   He said an angel gave him the golden plates and that he, Joseph, translated the plates by the gift and power of God.  Joseph also said that the Book of Mormon is a recond of God's dealings with His people in the Americas.

As a member of the church he founded I can tell you that I read the Book of Mormon.   I asked myself the question:  "Could any man have written this book?"   In other  words, did Joseph Smith really translate the Book of Mormon, or did he just write it?   My answer was that no single man nor group of men could have possibly written that book.

So to me, if the Book of Mormon is true, then Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God.  And if Joseph Smith was a prophet, then the church he founded is the true restored church of Jesus Christ.
